After they were crowned with the title of America’s Got Talent – Season 17, The Mayyas thanked Sofia Vergara for her support throughout the season with a special gift.
They gifted the Colombian-American actress and AGT judge a golden cedar necklace, a small gift of appreciation for her outspoken support and encouragement all throughout the season, including the Golden Buzzer.
When speaking to the media after the finale show ended, Vergara was seen wearing the necklace and showing it off with a large smile.
During an interview with Lebanon’s LBCI, Vergara stated that she expected that The Mayyas win as they did not stop rehearsing.
When asked to send a message of hope to Lebanon, Vergara pointed out her own experience with Lebanese culture.
“I come from Barranquilla, Colombia, and, in Barranquilla, we have a gigantic community of Lebanese people […] Like Shakira, for example, she’s from Barranquilla,” she commented
“So we grew up eating Lebanese food, dancing to Lebanese music, it’s a country that’s very close to my heart. I am so happy that in moments of problems and troubles every once in a while something as beautiful as The Mayyas comes up and distracts everybody,” she added.
Featured on Lebanon’s flag, the cedar tree is the country’s main national emblem and the pride of the Lebanese.
The Mayyas carried that pride onto the AGT stage during their final performance, presenting a mesmerizing scene of the Lebanese Cedar “covered in snow” in a stunning choreography.
And surely enough, The Mayyas group has revived the Lebanese people’s hope and pride, raising their flag high and bringing the name of Lebanon, with its beauty and stunning talents, to shine brilliantly through one of the most watched talents shows in the world.
And the Lebanese couldn’t be prouder!
