Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati recently made an unexpected visit to southern Lebanon, reiterating the country’s commitment to UN Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
This comes as Hezbollah continues to defy the resolution by engaging in cross-border attacks with Israel. Mikati’s visit included meetings with UNIFIL and Lebanon’s army commander, Joseph Aoun.
Despite these affirmations, Israel reports that Hezbollah’s attacks have escalated, leading to warnings from Israel and Western allies. The IDF has responded by targeting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
