Abdallah Bou Habib, Lebanon’s Caretaker Foreign Minister, announced on Monday a firm commitment to fully enact UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
This strategic decision declared post discussions with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail, signals a return to the armistice lines established in 1949.
It encompasses Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories and a halt to territorial breaches, including land, sea, and air violations.
The move came amid intense deliberations over the stability of southern Lebanon and international efforts to contain the Gaza conflict.
The urgency was underscored following a visit by European Union Foreign Minister Josep Borrell to Beirut. Additionally, Bou Habib echoed these commitments in a meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka.
