The media office of the caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary issued a statement explaining that the negotiations with the Qatari side to secure the broadcast of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Lebanese national television (Télé Liban) are still underway.
“There are many complications and difficulties in the negotiations, and the limited time is a non-helpful factor, knowing that Minister Makari has not spared any effort in this regard,” the media office stated on Thursday.
Last June, Prime Minister Najib Mikati asked Qatar to help the Lebanese people watch the 2022 World Cup, highlighting that the inflation puts the coverage out of reach for many.
Regardless of whether the national TV will manage to acquire the official approval or not to broadcast nationwide, many places in Lebanon will be broadcasting the matches live.
Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup from November 20 until December 18, 2022, the first event of this kind to be hosted by an Arab country.
