A recent report has cast doubt on the timing of Lebanon’s upcoming presidential election, suggesting it may not take place before the U.S. presidential election scheduled for next year.
Western diplomats were quoted in the report, stating, “There will not be a breakthrough prior to the U.S. election, which is about a year away.”
These diplomats further elaborated that the U.S. administration is currently preoccupied with domestic political battles.
Additionally, the U.S. is zeroing in on a single major achievement in the Middle East: the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
This focus, they argue, leaves little room for progress on other regional matters, including Lebanon’s presidential election.
