London’s oldest and largest market, Borough Market, will be holding a special event in support of Lebanon on October 17th.

The event, which is a bake sale, will be organized in a collaboration between the Middle Eastern restaurant Arabica and food editor and Instagram influencer Clerkenwell Boy.

All of its collected funds will be donated to 2 NGOs majorly contributing to the ongoing relief efforts in Beirut, in the aftermath of the August 4th explosion.

Titled “Bake for Beirut,” the charity event will take place at Borough Market from 11 AM until 2 PM on Sunday, October 17th, featuring several popular London-based bakers.

The raised funds will go to the Lebanese Red Cross and Impact Lebanon, which have been actively helping the people of Beirut recover from the port blast.

“This event is a perfect example of how our traders pull together to help support communities – whether that be local or beyond,” Darren Henaghan, the managing director of Borough Market, told the global media company Time Out.

“We are proud to be able to support such an important occasion and cause,” he added.

Bake for Beirut will have a large number of pastries and baked goods on sale. It will also include a charity auction featuring different prizes, including cookbooks, gift vouchers from top London restaurants — and even a pizza oven!

The initiative comes a little more than 2 months after the devastating explosion that rocked Beirut and left its people in disarray and absolute shock.

To this day, charitable initiatives are still taking place in solidarity with Beirut, the most recent of which was the cycling event Bike for Beirut, in which famed US cyclist Lance Armstrong participated this past weekend.
