A loud blast followed by gunfire startled residents in Beirut very early on Monday around 1:00 AM.
The sound of the blast rung through the night and some reported hearing it all the way to the Kesserwan region.
The Civil Defense Beirut reported that the blast was due to a clash/altercation yet without giving further details.
Initial information suggests the blast was related to a developing clash between two families in the Al-Laylaki locality in Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as the Dahieh.
It seems the explosions heard in #Beirut and some areas of Mt Lebanon are from clashes between Al Zeaiter and Al Hajala families in the Southern Suburbs. The sound is believed to be from the RPGs they were using.

It is not the first time the Zeaiter and Hajoula families take arms and clash against each other. This time, they have reportedly been clashing since Sunday evening. injuring at least 4.
According to local media, the families are fighting over a stolen motorbike.
