In the wake of heightened tensions following Iran’s direct attack on Israel, German airline behemoth Lufthansa has announced an extension of its flight suspensions to and from Tehran and Beirut until the end of April.
Additionally, the airline revealed that its aircraft would continue to steer clear of Iranian airspace during this period of uncertainty.
A spokesperson for Lufthansa informed AFP, “Our flights to Tehran and Beirut are canceled up to and including 30 April, and we are still not using Iranian airspace until the same date.”
Further disruptions to Lufthansa’s flight schedule were disclosed, with the company opting to suspend flights to Amman, Erbil, and Tel Abib until at least Tuesday.
The Lufthansa Group, encompassing major carriers such as Swiss and Austrian Airlines, emphasized its ongoing efforts to evaluate the security situation in the region.
In a statement, the group reiterated its dedication to maintaining close communication with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew.
This announcement comes after the company’s previous decision, made on Friday, to suspend flights from Tehran to Frankfurt until April 18.
During this period, Lufthansa has opted to circumvent Iranian airspace, reflecting a proactive approach to mitigating potential risks associated with the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
