A man has been arrested in eastern Lebanon for the murder of a pregnant woman with whom he was in a relationship.
In a statement on Wednesday detailing the incident, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) said that on June 4th, the body of an unidentified woman was discovered in a grove in the eastern city of Zahle.
A forensic pathologist determined that the woman had been choked to death after sustaining a powerful blow to her head and chest, revealing that she was in her 5th month of pregnancy at the time of her death.
Upon finding the body, the ISF‘s Information Branch launched an investigation and began collecting evidence from the crime scene.
The victim was later identified as “A.M.” (41, Syrian), and a suspect was identified soon after as “B.H.” (41, Syrian).
Within 2 hours of finding the body, Information Branch patrols raided the suspect’s house in Dalhamiyeh – Zahle and arrested him.
Facing the evidence proving his involvement in the crime, B.H. confessed while being interrogated that he had been having an affair with the victim.
He said he hit her on the head and choked her to death using the scarf she was wearing after she informed him of her pregnancy (by him) and refused to have an abortion.
After taking the required legal measures against him, security forces transferred the suspect to the competent judicial reference for further proceedings.
