Maritime Border File On Hold Pending Israeli Response To Lebanon’s Amendments

Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab said that he would only respond to official statements and not to media reports on Israel‘s stance regarding the latest amendments on the maritime border file requested by Lebanon.

This comes after a top Israeli official said that Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid is inclined to reject the latest amendments.

Bou Saab added that the deal “is 90% done but the remaining 10% could make it or break it,” adding that he was in constant contact with U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein.

Bou Saab had informed U.S. ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea of the final remarks that were presented by the Lebanese side regarding Hochstein’s final proposal.

For her part, Shea stressed the need to speed up the finalization of the Lebanese response, adding that her government is keen on wrapping up the file as soon as possible.
