Every year since 2014, the Eparchy of St-Maron Canada organizes a huge gathering for the Maronite Youth Convention (
). This will be the 4th time this event is held and it will be in Halifax this time from May 19 to May 21, 2017. Every year, a different Maronite church in a different Canadian city hosts the event and number of attendees keep growing.
aged 19 to 35 fly out from all over Canada to attend the convention. The first one ever held was in Montreal in 2014, followed by Ottawa in 2015, Toronto in 2016 and now Halifax 2017. The Maronite Youth Convention was initiated by his Excellency Mgr. Paul-Marwan Tabet of the Eparchy of St-Maron. The aim is to bring the youth together and to unite our churches and the youth all over Canada. Canada has a sizeable Lebanese population (estimated at 2% of the entire population) and the vast majority of whom are Maronites. The Maronite churches here in Canada are very active and the Lebanese community is still quite close to their Lebanese roots, traditions and heritage. It’s quite significant that Greater Montreal has 6 Lebanese churches – all of which are active and quite often fully packed. The Maronite Youth Convention takes place over a weekend and includes spiritual and social activities, tourism of the city, food, lots of dabke, lots of socializing, and there
may or may not
be some Lebanese-style partying too.
It’s also a good place to find yourself your future wife/husband… just kidding.. (kind of).
