Middle East Airlines (MEA), Lebanon’s flag carrier, has announced the suspension of upcoming flights to Saudi Arabia.
In a press release issued on Sunday, MEA‘s Public Relations Department announced the suspension of its flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Riyadh – Jeddah and Dammam) as of Monday, 1st of February 2021 till Monday, 8th of February 2021.
The only exception to this will be a flight that will operate as an evacuation flight on Thursday, February 4th, from Riyadh to Beirut, the statement said.
MEA did not specify the reason behind the decision, but it comes as Saudi Arabia takes additional measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Last week, the Kingdom announced new travel requirements for passengers arriving from Lebanon, citing health reasons.
Around 2 weeks prior, the Saudi authorities issued a warning to Saudi citizens against traveling to Lebanon and 11 other countries without prior permission.
Infection cases have been on the rise in Lebanon lately, topping 300,000 total cases on Sunday, according to the Health Ministry’s daily report on the epidemic.
MEA has also announced the cancellation of some of its upcoming flights to France.
