Luiz Felipe de Oliveira Nasr was born in Brasilia, the Federal Capital of Brazil, on August 21, 1992. Nasr is of Lebanese descent from his Grandfather’s side.
According to an interview with the F1 Driver by The National in 2014, Nasr’s “Lebanese roots run deep” and he feels as Lebanese as Brazilian.
His grandfather relocated to Brazil from Lebanon in the 1960s, and, along with his grandmother, also a Lebanese, they kept the traditions all through, including the cuisine with Lebanese family meals on Saturdays.
They settled down in Annapolis, a small city near Brasilia, and Nasr’s grandfather embarked on a variety of business ventures.
Though in his early twenties, Luis has already been racing for more than a decade, and success has accompanied him nearly every step of the way. Born into a racing family, his life has been dedicated to the sport.
While still a teenager, he moved to Europe in order to compete in racing and spent the following years establishing himself as one of its brightest young stars.
He spent his formative years racing karts in his homeland, racking up an erray of national titles by the tender age of 15. That success prompted a switch into single-seaters, with Nasr moving into Formula BMW Americas for the 2008 season finale at Interlagos. Nasr would go on to finish fifth and third in the two races.
After that introduction, Nasr moved into Formula BMW Europe for 2009 and was met with immediate success. A victory and one Second Place in the opening round thrust him into a championship lead a lead he would upkeep almost consistently throughout the season on his way to the title.
The following year, he switched into British F3, winning once and taking four podiums overall. Having conquered F3 in 2012, he finished on the podium in the prestigious Daytona 24 Hours. By early 2015, he landed his first F1 race seat.
As of 2019, Nasr is the current IMSA Sportscar Champion and has won the 2019 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts!
