On Wednesday, May 20th, the United States authorities arrested two men for allegedly assisting Carlos Ghosn to escape from japan to Lebanon in December.
According to Federal prosecutors in Massachusetts, former U.S. Green Beret Michael Taylor and his son, Peter Taylor, were apprehended for helping the former Nissan CEO flee to Lebanon, reports The Daily Star.
According to the Financial Times, Boston prosecutors said that Ghosn’s escape from Japan was “one of the most brazen and well-orchestrated escape acts in recent history” and that it involved “a dizzying array of hotel meetups, bullet train travel, fake personas, and the chartering of a private jet.”
The arrest took place just before Peter Taylor planned to take off from Boston to Beirut, according to the court filing, reported FT.
Earlier this month, seven people in Turkey faced the same charges for their direct involvement in the operation.
Carlos Ghosn currently resides in Beirut, untouched by the chaos and safe from prosecution for his alleged financial misconduct because Lebanon does not have an extradition treaty with Japan.
