In light of escalating tensions in Lebanon and the surrounding region, Middle East Airlines (MEA) has announced plans to move 10 of its aircraft to Cyprus for safekeeping.
This decision comes after the airline had already relocated 5 planes to Turkey. The move is prompted by insurance companies no longer covering damages under the current circumstances.
Starting Sunday, MEA will scale back its flight schedule, retaining only 7 aircraft for its operations. This reflects 62.5% of its entire fleet.
The reduced schedule will still ensure transportation from Beirut but at a slower pace.
Other airlines are expected to follow suit, gradually reducing their flights to Beirut.
