After the stalemate that has dominated the government formation file for a while, it seems that the movement has begun to gradually return to the government’s entitlement.
Sources told LBCI that “Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati informed the ministers that he had contacted President Michel Aoun, and he will visit Baabda on Wednesday to discuss with him the file of forming the government.”
This meeting is the first one since the meeting that coincided with Army Day on August 1st.
Mikati has invited the ministers earlier for a “periodic” meeting at the Serail, but the ambiguity of this sudden invitation came as a result of the ministers’ apology for attending.
As of yet, no government has been formed. Lebanon is still under a caretaker government while the crises continue to worsen and strikes are taking place in many sectors.
President Aoun stated earlier in July that a new government might not be formed in the few remaining weeks of his tenure while noting that there is still “hope” to see a new formation.
