Lebanon recently celebrated the 4th edition of the “Miss Housekeeper” pageant with the Embassy of the Philippines as the guest of honor.
Showcasing 11 dynamic migrant domestic workers from the Philippines, this unique event not only offers a platform for these women but also aims to counter prevailing stereotypes.
With the winner taking home $1,000 and some delightful gifts, the pageant shines a spotlight on the challenges and aspirations of these workers.
While it’s a step toward recognition, it’s essential to note that many still face difficulties under Lebanon’s Kafala system, emphasizing the need for broader systemic change.
Editor’s Note: The earlier version of the article incorrectly stated that the Philippines embassy organized it but in fact were just the guest of honor.
