A Lebanese team has won third place in a 2v2 international beach volleyball tournament organized by the Esperia Volleyball Academy in Dubai, UAE.
Mother-daughter duo Mervat Hamza and Mirna Sheikho took home bronze medals after competing in the tournament that involved 7 teams from Europe, Asia, and South America.
After winning all their matches in the first round, the Lebanese duo qualified for the semi-finals, where they lost to Russian players.
They regained their momentum when they played for the third and fourth places, where they beat the Russian team to finally win third place in the tournament.
Waleed Al-Qasouf, President of the Lebanese Volleyball Federation, congratulated Hamza and Sheikho on their achievement, which is the latest of several they have recorded in the sport.
The duo had finished second in the friendly Jumeira Beach tournament a few months ago in the UAE, which involved several teams of different nationalities.
Lebanese former volleyball player and current coach Mounir Abbouchi, the owner of the company that organized the said tournament, personally presented the medals and cash prizes to the first three teams.
Hamza and Sheikho are set to compete in two more international tournaments that will take place over the next few days.
