Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, revealed information about the disappearance of Imam Mousa Al-Sadr in August 1978 as well as the details of his detention in Lebanon.
In a message to Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath, he said: “I am a hostage of a political arrest, blackmail, and a politicized decision to detain me.”
Hannibal Gaddafi revealed that Muammar Gaddafi, who was in Sirte, a Libyan city at the time, did not meet with Imam Mousa Al-Sadr.
He indicated that the former Libyan Prime Minister, Abd al-Salam Jalloud, was responsible for the Lebanese file during al-Sadr’s disappearance.
He shared that Jalloud welcomed al-Sadr in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, before al-Sadr’s disappearance, adding that he has no other information to provide about the disappearance.
Mousa Al-Sadr was reportedly believed that he had disappeared in Libya, however, Gaddafi stressed that he “disappeared in Rome, and Abdel Salam Jalloud met him before his disappearance.”
Regarding the details of his arrest, Gaddafi explained, “They kidnapped me from inside Syria, forced me into Lebanon through an illegal crossing, and arbitrarily detained me in the prison of the Information Branch of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces.”
He believed that there was a coordination between the kidnappers and those officially working for the Lebanese state.
He said: “Hassan Al-Shami visited me in my prison and said that he was a judge investigating the disappearance of Mousa Al-Sadr. Al-Shami took notes, and then went out to the media and attributed to me statements that I did not say.”
Gaddafi continued, “The Amal movement fought in Lebanon with arms and ammunition from the Libyan money, and any bullet fired by the Amal movement towards Israel from Lebanon had the signature of [Muammar] Gaddafi.”
He now called for a special investigation committee from the Lebanese Parliament and a public trial before the international community. He asked that the Amal movement announces its position and that Sistani and Muqtada al-Sadr determine their position on what is being done against him in the name of the Shiites.
