The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Judge Mahmoud Makkieh, said in a press conference in Baabda Palace that the new government will hold its first meeting this Monday.
After the announcement of the new government, Prime Minister Najib Mikati pledged in his speech in Baabda that the Parliamentary Elections will be held on time on the 8th of May 2022.
Prior to his visit to Baabda Palace, Mikati announced that the government would be formed and later indicated that it wouldn’t contain a blocking third.
With the worsening situation in Lebanon, Mikati said that this government will work on fixing the country and that this isn’t the time for political feuds.
The formation of the new government was followed by a sharp drop in the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar to the Lebanese pound on the black market.
