This is how the new U.S. Embassy in Lebanon will look like

Last year on April 20, the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard broke ground on the new U.S. Embassy compound in Lebanon. According to a

press release

by the U.S. Department of State, the state-of-the-art complex in Awkar will have an area of 43.87 acres (177535.59 square meters) and is currently under construction. The embassy is designed by Morphosis Architects, and the project will end in 2022. The multi-building complex will include:

  • Chancery
  • Marine Security guard residence
  • Housing
  • Support and community spaces

The project will be completed under the leadership of Thom Mayne who is the founder of Morphosis. According to

Architect Magazine

, he is the “winner of both the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the AIA Gold Medal.” The embassy will be eco-friendly. Over 75% of the wastewater will be reused. The design also includes solar panels to achieve Net Zero Energy. The new embassy will be located near the existing Embassy Compound. The project will cost $1,026,043,688.
