Lebanon Calls on Its Citizens to Support Lebanese Products

An initiative aiming at motivating the Lebanese to trust in local products and support Lebanon's industry.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri launched the National Campaign to support Lebanese Industry entitled With the National, I Support My Nation, organized by the Ministry of Industry in cooperation with the Association of Lebanese Industrialists.

The launching event took place at the Grand Serail in the presence of a number of current and former ministers, including Minister of Industry Wael Abou Faour, and various MPs and heads of diplomatic missions, as well as representatives of military and security services, industrialists, and businessmen.

The new campaign presents a 50-second promotional film highlighting the importance of the Lebanese industry and the interaction of the Lebanese youth with it.

The initiative's strategy includes educational dialogues and media campaign to promote national production and industry, specialized exhibitions in a number of regions in the country, and endorsing the participation of Lebanese industrial producers in international shows.

From his side, Prime Minister Saad Hariri delivered a short speech about the new campaign in which he said, "The campaign we are launching today ends the debate between those who say that we have an industry in Lebanon and those who oppose this saying, and I say: We have an industry in Lebanon." 

He also added that their efforts will focus in the coming period on:

  • Completion of studies for the establishment and development of industrial zones capable of providing an enabling environment for industrialists.
  • Encouraging joint ventures with the foreign private sector.
  • Opening markets to Lebanese products and raising the value of Lebanese exports in terms of quantity and quality.
  • Investing in the vocational and technical education sector so that they can secure and develop the specialized technical skills and youth that they need to develop the industrial sector.

From his part minister, Minister Abou Faour advanced, "This campaign aims at raising the awareness of the Lebanese consumer about the quality and competitiveness of the Lebanese industry, and motivating him/her to support it by giving priority to purchasing Lebanese products."

He also noted that "in the first half of 2019, the value of exports increased by $660 million; an increase of 4 percent since 2018."
