Lebanese mountaineer Joyce Azzam continues with her journey of ascension to the tops and the highest. She stands as the first Lebanese woman to scale six of the seven world summits.
Carrying along the grandeur of her dream, she makes our nation proud as she targets further up. Her paramount achievement is yet to come.
On April 1st, supported by Am bank team, Joyce Azzam will attempt to climb Mount Everest. She will be the first Lebanese woman to climb this legendary mountain and the second Lebanese after Maxime Shaaya.
Climbing towards the tops is no strange to Joyce Azzam. She was born during the Lebanese civil war into a middle-class family and made her way up the scale through an outstanding journey of education.
She became a Conservation Architect and Urban Designer, holder of a Ph.D. in Landscape & Environment and a Master's Degree in Conservation of Historic Cities and Buildings.
Her love for sports developed during her teenage years upon being invited to hike. Ever since then, she started connecting with nature and looking for mountains. She became one of the most famous Lebanese mountaineers.
Our Conservation Architect and Urban Designer is the first Lebanese woman to achieve the "Seven Summit Challenge", which requires climbing the highest point in each of the seven continents.
So far, she climbed Vinson Massif, Mt Aconcagua, Denali, Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Elbrus, and Carstensz Pyramid.
Joyce was determined to undertake "The Seven Summit Challenge" upon collaborating with Himaya, a Lebanese NGO against child abuse. Her participation throve to deliver a powerful message of bravery and fearlessness to the children and youth to overcome their own fears.
As the ambassador to Himaya, Joyce keeps inspiring the young ones during her visits to them in their schools and universities, sharing her heroic story and journey.
Joyce has many goals ahead. Her final one calls to complete The Explorers Grand Slam, which involves the seven summits plus the North and South poles.
The Mount Everest, her new challenge ahead, was completed so far by only one woman and 17 people in the world. Joyce intends to allocate her very best to achieve it.
