Safadi No Longer Wants to Become Prime Minister of Lebanon

He withdrew his nomination!

Reuters has reported today Sunday, November 17, that according to Lebanese media, the Lebanese businessman and former minister Mohammad Al-Safadi has decided to withdraw his candidacy for the Prime Minister position, after being the main candidate agreed upon by the major political parties in Lebanon recently.

As LBCI and Al-Jadeed news channels report, Al-Safadi decided not to head the next cabinet after refusing to head a government that is not technocratic in nature. Furthermore, his only condition -as per him- for accepting the position was a government made up of professionals and experts in compliance with the people's demands.

As per Lebanese media reports, the recent meeting that took place Saturday, November 16, between minister Gebran Bassil and Al-Safadi resulted in the latter withdrawing his candidacy.

Al-Safadi has allegedly nominated the current caretaker Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri as his only candidate for the position. In the meantime, the major political parties and figures in the country insist on PM Al-Hariri's re-election, though the latter remains unwilling to take the position as of the time of writing this article.
