No Casualties Reported On The Roads Of Lebanon On New Years!

No casualties reported on the roads of Lebanon by the

Traffic Management Center

last night and early this morning. However, there were 12 accidents and which resulted in 18 injuries only – no deaths.

What a great way to start the new year! There has been quite the effort from government entities as well as NGO’s to raise awareness and prevent people from drinking and driving. Such as free taxi rides for new years:

The awareness campaigns as well as the great work by the ISF (Internal Security Forces),Red Cross and Army have paid off! A big thank you to everyone who took part of these initiatives.

Many reported that it was the first time they saw so many police officers and civil defense units present on the streets.

Also, a big thank you to the Lebanese Army which stopped a major terrorist attack that was planned by sleeper-cell. The plan involved a shootout and a suicide bombing. They wanted to target a gathering, first with rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades followed by heavy gunfire. A suicide bomber had planned to then detonate himself when bystanders and medics gathered to aid the wounded.
