On Monday, Judge Tarek Bitar unexpectedly continued his investigation into the Beirut Port blast after a 13-month hiatus.
He immediately ordered the release of 5 detainees but also charged 8 officials and judges, a first in Lebanon’s history.
All the names have been released:
- Prosecutor-General Ghassan Oueidat
- Judge Ghassan Khoury
- Judge Carla Shawwah
- Judge Jad Maalouf
- Higher Customs Council chief Asaad Toufaili
- Higher Customs Council member Gracia al-Qazi
- General Security chief Major General Abbas Ibrahim
- State Security chief Major General Tony Saliba
