Parliament guards were seen celebrating Nabih Berri’s 7th term as head of parliament.
These guards are reportedly handpicked by Nabih Berri and believed to be Amal Movement partisans, which is a cause of concern for many Lebanese people that consider them “Berri’s own private militia” and not the parliament’s guards.
They became renowned for their brutality towards civilians protesting during the October 17th Revolution and in the aftermath of the Beirut Blast, where they reportedly used live ammunition against protesters.
