The village of Mechmech (Mishmish) is located in the Akkar District of North Lebanon.

The name of the village means ‘apricot’ however, according to Annahar, its original name was Mishmis (‘sunny’) in reference to the sun that shines upon it all day.

Its forests, caves, and dynamic landscapes make it a prime location for ecotourism in Akkar, especially thanks to hike-tour groups like Akkar Trail.

It is also where fossilized insects dating over 120 million years were recently discovered.
