President Aoun Says The Current Government Is Not Qualified To Take Over His Powers

The Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, confirmed that he has started sending his personal items, successively, to his house in Rabieh, to which he will move at twelve midnight on October 31, “not a minute less or a minute more.”

As for whether he could hand over his powers to the caretaker government, he pointed out in an interview with Al-Joumhouria newspaper, “Such a government is not qualified to hand over my powers to after the end of my term, and I consider that it does not have the national legitimacy for solutions.”

President Aoun expressed his skepticism about the reasons for not forming a government so far, revealing that “he has a feeling that the obstruction is deliberate so that Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati and his successors put their hands on the country through a caretaker government, which does not meet the conditions for replacing a president.”

“If such a repulsive situation arises, I will not bow to it and will confront it,” the president went on to say.

He noted, “My house in Rabieh will be open to everyone, and whoever thinks that I will finish after leaving Baabda Palace, I will disappoint them as they were disappointed when I left Baabda in 1990 and they thought at the time that they got rid of me.”
