President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, says he does not want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Lebanese daily Al-Joumhouria.
In contrast to the many leaders and public figures around the world who are setting a good example about taking the vaccine, such as Pope Francis, Aoun has reportedly expressed that he will refrain from getting it once it arrives in Lebanon.
Instead, he prefers to take regular health precautions and follow preventative measures, which are only so effective. Almost a dozen coronavirus cases have already been reported in the Presidential Palace.
The president’s son-in-law, Gebran Bassil, who’s the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) party started by Michel Aoun, tested positive a few months ago.
Leading by example, world leaders encourage the people they represent to take the vaccine to limit the spread. As well as to speed up the recovery process from the pandemic.
Editor’s note – 12/28/2020 11:45 pm: President’s press office released a statement saying he will take the vaccine after all.
