Qatar has plans to donate buses that were used to transport fans during the World Cup to Lebanon to boost the transportation sector.
The idea came up during a meeting between Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Qatari officials on the sidelines of the World Cup.
The donation will consist of buses, thousands of stadium seats, and even entire football stadiums.
Qatar had acquired around 3,000 buses for the World Cup and had already been using 1,000 buses, which were made available to fans for free during the event.
Sources reveal that the Qatari officials had offered to provide seats for sports city in Beirut and some municipal stadiums, but the Lebanese government proposed the idea of supplying Lebanon with several buses instead.
This was discussed between Prime Minister Mikati and Qatar’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Bin Abdul Rahman Bin Jasem Al Thani, who is in charge of Qatar’s external investment fund and political relations with other countries including Lebanon.
