On Monday morning, social media activists started sharing photos of the Ramlet El Bayda beach after it was recklessly trashed during the weekend.
The photos were published by the director of this public beach in Beirut and showed food packages, beer bottles, and even used diapers thrown on the beach.
The Ramlet El Bayda management just finished cleaning the beach today, Wednesday.
The scene of the horrendous mess left by people after taking advantage of this public beach was met with outrage.
Ramlet El Bayda is one of the main touristic features of Beirut, in addition to being an upscale residential area. Its beach has been left free of charge for people who can’t afford private beaches and resorts to enjoy beach days without financial concerns.
However, these people who used the beach this weekend didn’t show the same consideration and respect.
The public beach management might need to consider patrolling the beach on weekends and issuing penalties for littering. As some social media users commented, some people just don’t have the concept of environmental hygiene and responsibility.
