Lebanese trap shooter Ray Bassil completed her first day of competition in the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.
On Day 1 of the qualifiers for the Final, Bassil hit 67 out of 75 targets, distributed over three rounds, each consisting of 25 targets.
She hit 24 targets in the first round, 20 in the second, and 23 in the third.
With that, the athlete has accumulated 67 points, which places her at rank #23 on Day 1, preceded by Ana Waleska Soto Abril of Guatemala and Maggy Ashmawy of Egypt, both of whom share the same score with Bassil.
“On Thursday will be the last rounds with fifty plates to ensure qualification for the Final. There is still hope, and nothing is impossible,” Bassil wrote in an Instagram post following the event.
Bassil has made it clear that her goal in this year’s Olympics is not to just take part but to win Lebanon’s first medal in decades.
The shooter has demonstrated excellence in recent international competitions, including when she won Gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation 2016 World Cup.
The Olympic women’s trap qualifiers will resume with the final two rounds on Thursday at 3 AM Beirut time.
