In a decisive call for peace, MP Ashraf Rifi of the Renewal Bloc has urged the Lebanese government to enforce UN Resolution 1701, which mandates the disarmament of non-state armed groups south of the Litani River.
In a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Rifi emphasized the urgency of concrete actions to prevent military operations along the southern border and to restrict armed presence exclusively to the Lebanese army and UNIFIL.
This move is crucial to protect Lebanon from the perils of war and to maintain its sovereignty away from regional conflicts. The Renewal Bloc also advocated for Lebanon’s role in supporting Arab efforts towards peace in Gaza and the two-state solution.
Additionally, they proposed the development of President René Moawad’s airport in Kleiat for civilian use, highlighting the emergency state of the country. Amidst these discussions, Mikati received an invite to the Emergency Arab Summit in Riyadh, focusing on the situation in Gaza and Palestine.
