On Wednesday evening, the Ministry of Public Health released the COVID19 surveillance sheet to reveal a large increase in COVID cases with 861 new cases and 1 new death.

The testing positivity rate was 8.9%, and 35 hospital beds and 10 ICU beds were occupied in the past 24 hours by COVID patients.

That number is significantly higher than those reported in the past few months after a decline was announced at the beginning of March.

Earlier that day, the Ministry also revealed in a tweet that the “COVID19 vaccination rate in Lebanon has not yet exceeded 50% and it’s important to reach at least 80% to strengthen community immunity.”

On June 21st, vaccination for children aged between 5 and 11 started.

COVID is also rising in Europe with French vaccination chief announcing a new wave in France on Wednesday.
