Lebanese composer Samir Sfeir has landed in Beirut after spending several weeks in Saudi captivity.

Sfeir‘s Middle East Airlines flight arrived at Beirut-Rafik Hariri International Airport from Saudi Arabia on Thursday afternoon.

He was welcomed at the Airport by MP Salim Aoun, composer Nizar Francis, and a group of family members.

The musician’s arrival comes a few days after reports indicated that he had been transferred to a temporary prison in Saudi Arabia, pending his deportation to Lebanon.

Sfeir, a known supporter of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), was arrested a month ago after landing in Saudi Arabia for a supposed meeting with an official in the capital city of Riyadh.

With his return to Beirut, #Samir_Sfeir has topped the list of top-trending hashtags on Twitter in Lebanon, with fans welcoming Sfeir back and expressing support for him.

Sfeir has yet to make any public statements regarding the circumstances of his arrest and the weeks of captivity that followed.
