For the third year, Settlement Services International (SSI) is partnering with the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) to highlight female artists and music practitioners, coming from different cultures.
Eight female artists were selected for the program that promotes diversity in the music industry and gives talented singers from NSW and Queensland the opportunity to get further fame.
The female musicians will participate in the 2-day AWMA program in Brisbane featuring an awards ceremony, film screening, and a conversation with Australian singer Tina Arena.
Among the 8 selected female singers is Samira El Koussa, one of the highly celebrated Lebanese singers, composers, songwriters, and musicians specializing in “Tarab”.
El Koussa has attended the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music and graduated from Beit Al Musika.
Having a career of 28 years filled with performances in Lebanon, Dubai, Syria, Jordan, and Australia, she was a finalist in the Lebanese TV Program “Studio Al Fan”.
The 2022 AWMA program is taking place on May 17 and 18 in Brisbane.
According to the SSI CEO, Violet Roumeliotis, “events like AWMA recognize the contribution and value of First Nations and multicultural performers by acknowledging the incredible contributions made by all Australian women.”
The SSI is a community organization that supports emerging talents to achieve their full potential, whereas the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) acknowledges the achievements of women across the Australian music industry.
