On Saturday, June 6th, Annahar newspaper reported that a ship with 100 illegal emigrants from Tripoli and Akkar sunk off the shores of Turkey.
The newspaper added that the ship had left Lebanon a few days ago heading toward Europe.
A nearby vessel belonging to a European country saw the sinking ship and managed to rescue them and transport them to Spain.
Dangerous illegal emigration from Lebanon continues despite the many dramatic incidents and attempts by the Lebanese Army to put an end to it.
Tripoli, in particular, was deeply affected back in April when 6 people died, including a baby, after the boat capsized off Tripoli’s coast.
