    South Lebanon Residents Can Now Enjoy Safer Road Conditions

    The Italian contingent of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force launched lately a development project, which is a support wall for the main road of the town of Aita al-Shaab. The launching occurred during a celebration attended by the commander of the western sector, General Bruno Pisciotta, along with the mayor of the village, Mohammed Sorour, a number of mayors of the region, numerous religious and official figures, and a local crowd.

    The project, which included a new supporting wall and widening of the main road in Aita al-Shaab, was implemented by the Office of Civil-Military Cooperation of the Italian Battalion with funding from Italy due to the importance of the road.

    Mayor of Aita al-Shaab Mohammed Sorour praised the Italian contingent and its pioneering role in achieving security and stability in south Lebanon. He thanked the unit for its support to the people of the south in general and their children in particular, pointing out to the services and development projects the unit has completed in the region.

     

    From his side, UNIFIL’s Sector West Commander Brig. Gen. Bruno Pisciotta said at the opening ceremony that he is “glad” to have contributed to the project, supported by funding from Italy, as it will “benefit the people of the town and ease the flow of traffic.”

    The Italian contingent has been recently allocation efforts to increase the safety and visibility on the roads of south Lebanon and to improve living conditions in this area of southern Lebanon.

    n that context, the Italian contingent of the UN Peacekeeping Force in southern Lebanon launched a month ago a solar lighting project along the highway. It extends from the headquarters of the Lebanese Red Cross in Tyre to the Hosba market, next to the Tyre Public Garden, and that with the aim to increase safety and visibility while being environmentally friendly.

    In February 2019, the Italian contingent of the U.N. Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon also inaugurated a similar solar lighting project on the main streets of Tyre’s Majdal Zoune consisting of 17 solar-powered lights.
