A leader in Hezbollah‘s Lebanese Resistance Brigade, Ali Shibli, was shot to death last night while he was attending a wedding in Warwick Pangea Beach Resort in Jiyeh.
The shooter has been identified as Ahmad Zaher Ghosn from the Khalde Arabs clan. He was the brother of Hassan Ghosn whom Ali Shibli had killed last year on August 27th during armed clashes between Hezbollah and Khalde Arabs in Khalde.
Ahmad Ghosn decided to take revenge for the death of his 15-year-old brother as this is a tradition by Khalde Arabs who live by the “eye for an eye” motto. He used a military pistol to shoot Shibli several times.
Shibli died as soon as he was taken to the hospital. Security forces quickly managed to arrest the killer.
Khalde Arabs released a statement where they claimed that this incident was vengeance to what Shibli did last year to one of their own as no conciliation happened between the two sides, which meant that vengeance was inevitable.
It is to note that, during the confrontation of last year, the Lebanese Army sent forces to surround Shibli Center in Khalde, which belonged to the victim and was burned down in the clashes to avoid any further conflict.
This act of vengeance comes amidst a complete absence of authoritative intervention in this case where not even an investigation into last year’s clashes was initiated.
