Lebanese director Hala El Kouch was officially selected to participate in the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA) with her documentary “The Place Where I Belong” as part of the IDFA Project Space 2022.
Selected among 16 international filmmakers out of 260 projects, El Kouch’s movie spotlights the aftermath of the Beirut Blast and the suffering and struggles of the Lebanese people.
The film synopsis follows the director as she decides to walk alone in Beirut for the first time after the Blast to reach a treatment session. However, the corniche where she walked has more impact than just a walk on Hala’s life.
According to the festival’s organizers, the Lebanese director will now work on her first feature film with the support of IDFA.
Taking place in Amsterdam and online, from June to September, the IDFA Project Space has selected 16 international filmmaking teams. During the meeting in person, a full week of tutoring and sessions in July will be providing the selected projects with in-depth support.
