On January 2nd, 2024, Beirut experienced Israeli airstrikes for the first time since the 2006 war. These strikes resulted in the death of Saleh al-Arouri in the Al-Mashrafieh area, south of Dahieh – a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut.
Turns out, Rewards for Justice was offering up to $5 million for information regarding Salih al-Aruri, a founder of Hamas‘ military wing, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, and deputy leader of the Hamas Political Bureau since October 2017.
According to the Rewards for Justice website, Al-Aruri was responsible for funding and directing Hamas’ military activities in the West Bank and is linked to various terrorist activities including attacks, hijackings, and kidnappings.
He notably claimed responsibility for the June 2014 attack in the West Bank that resulted in the death of three Israeli teenagers. On September 10, 2015, the U.S. Treasury designated him as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, freezing his assets and prohibiting transactions with him by U.S. persons.
