These are the new promises of Lebanon’s new Interior Minister

Lebanese Interior Minister, Raya Hassan, announced a new decision concerning the removal of cement blocks.

“My decision concerning the removal of cement blocks from congested areas will be applied to the whole Lebanese territory, and additional traffic police and municipal police would be deployed during rush hour.” Minister El Hassan said in her tweet.

Minister El Hassan expressed her concern about traffic issue in Lebanon early this month after ordering the removal of security concrete barriers that were set around the Ministry of Interior in Beirut.

The newly-appointed minister also announced in a tweet that she “will be strict in applying the laws against the harassment of women, children or even men, and will train the elements of the internal security forces within the police community to reduce this phenomenon.

In the past few days, she also revived some serious debates about the civil marriage among the Lebanese people and officials after she has vowed, along with Prime Minister Saad Hariri, to raise the issue with religious authorities.

“I will try to open the door to a serious and deep dialogue on this issue with all religious and other authorities, and with the support of PM Hariri until civil marriage is recognized,” Hassan said in her interview with Euronews.”

A handover ceremony was held last week between Minister El Hassan and former Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk during which she vowed to start working on many projects covering various fields.
