This Lebanese Designer Killed it at Paris Fashion Week 2020

The Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad dazzled the audience with his new 2020 spring/summer collection in Paris by creating a collection inspired by Ancient Egypt.

Murad’s collection matched perfectly the magnificent setting of the former 19th-century palace Hotel Potocki in Paris.

The backdrop for his eponymous womenswear label’s latest couture showed off a glamorous homage to Ancient Egypt.

Mainly relying on beads, sequins, embroidery, and chiffon, the models rocked the catwalk showing off the beauty of the Egyptian Pharaohs and the thorough Lebanese creativity behind the collection.

Lebanon and Egpyt go a long way in art and culture, and in relationships since the Phoenician era.

Throughout the 20th-century, Lebanese actors and singers sought Egypt for a break-through to stardom and fame in Egypt’s Hollywood-like studios.

When Egyptian producers discovered the beauty of the natural settings of Lebanon (natural snow, spring, rain, etc.), Egyptian studios moved to Lebanon during the golden age of the sixties, enriching both cultures with each other’s heritage and traditions.

Zuhair Murad has now revived the Lebanese-Egyptian culture in his gold, ivory, coral, crimson, and scarab blue colors. Not only did the colors revived the age of Nefertiti, but the purplish colors also screamed of the ancient history of Phoenicia.

Anastasiia Kuznetsova walked the catwalk in a mystic gold and tomb-paintings dress, followed by Tatia Akhalia in a gold chiffon and sequin embellished gown.

The collection compiled numerous dress styles, including a two-piece glimmering outfit, maxi dresses embellished with ancient Egyptian royal symbols, and other pieces using satin, tulle, and other materials.

What was notable in the Lebanese designer’s collection is the rich-in-culture collection and its correlation with the settings and the seasons of Egypt.

A number of his dresses showed off what seemed like sunshine rays, representing Egypt’s sharp sun and the Re or Ra of Egypt.

Ra or Re is the ancient Egyptian deity of the sun, and one of the most important ones in the ancient religion, and was identified primarily with the noon sun; according to The Routledge Dictionary of Egyptian Gods and Goddesses by George Hart. It was believed that Ra created all forms of life.

Zuhair Murad captioned one of his Instagram posts saying; “As a reverence to the Sun God, evening gowns are adorned with capes, with incandescent gilding and crystals, for a sensuous yet architectural effect.”

Even the bride was an Egyptian queen. Wearing a bejeweled headdress, the model emerged on the catwalk stunning in a heavily embellished Kalasiris-style dress, evoking a modern-day Cleopatra.

The crystal-emblazoned wedding dress featured a floor-trailing train, a dramatic attached cape, and a glimmering collar that imitated Ancient Egyptian necklaces.

Zuhair Murad certainly outdid himself with this stunning collection that is making the fashionistas talk in awe.
