A new restaurant named Simple Butter is among the many new spots to open its doors in Lebanon, quickly becoming a hot topic among Lebanese.
Located in Centro Mall in the Jnah area, Simple Butter has drawn significant attention for its striking resemblance, to say the least, to the well-known Lebanese chain, Swiss Butter.
Swiss Butter, which has been rapidly growing in Lebanon and internationally, has a very simple menu and aestically-pleasing presentation. It mostly consists of a meat option, with a side of salad, fries, and bread – all on a wooden board.
Simple Butter recently opened a near identical restaurant offering exactly the same thing, near identical menu, store design, employee uniform, and logo.
Aside from a very minimal difference in a few menu items, Simple Butter offers shisha – which Swiss Butter thankfully doesn’t.
The restaurant has sparked some controversy with many users calling them out for copying a Lebanese-owned chain – harming fellow Lebanese businesses.
Going local has been encouraged during the recent boycotts. With local alternatives gaining popularity such as Stories’ rapid growth in competition of Starbucks. However, many users weren’t too happy that Simple Butter essentially ripped off a Lebanese brand.
Despite the controversy, the restaurant continues to attract food bloggers promoting the place but not a single post is going without someone mentioning Swiss Butter. Food bloggers are getting called out in the comments of their videos promoting Simple Butter.
