Meet The Lebanese Athletes Participating In The 2022 Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics in Beijing is about to kick off, starting February 4th with 91 countries participating, including Lebanon with three of its best athletes.

The Winter Olympics is an international contest of winter sports

The highly expected international winter sports event, which will run until February 20th this year, is held every four years at a two-year interval from the summer games. 

Lebanon will be represented by three young athletes, 2 in the Alpine Skiing contest and 1 in the Cross-Country Skiing contest.

Cesar Arnouk

Lebanese alpine skier Cesar Arnouk, aged 21, will be competing for the Alpine Skiing title.

He previously competed in two World Championships (2019, 2021) with his 33rd in giant slalom at Cortina d’Ampezzo being the best result ever for Lebanon.

In 2017 and 2018 he won two Junior World Championships and his best finish was 55th in the giant slalom in 2018 (Davos) and 2021 national slalom champion (Cedars).

Manon Ouaiss

Lebanese alpine skier Manon Ouaiss, 21 years old, will be also competing for the Alpine Alpine Skiing title.

In 2021, she competed at the SES Cup in Montenegro, where she won 3 races among small evolving ski nations. She also won 3 Lebanon national titles and claimed 9 FIS races in Lebanon and was second in the 2016 Asian Championships as a junior.

Elie Tawk

19-years old Lebanese athlete Elie Tawk will enter the Cross-Country skiing competition.

Elie Tawk is a finance student at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik and has had several successful turning points in his skiing journey, including his participation in the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne. In 2021, he ranked 54th at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Germany.

Beijing 2022

Team Lebanon first participated in the Winter Olympics in 1948 with 17 participants in total after the establishment of a National Olympic Committee. Since then, Lebanon has competed at nearly every Olympic Games.

Team Lebanon has had 33 Winter Olympians winners so far (29 men, 4 women).
