Lebanon registered 580 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Saturday, the Health Ministry revealed in its daily report on the outbreak.
In the past 24 hours, 20 COVID-19 patients passed away, while 580 others recovered, raising the total number of virus-related deaths and recoveries in Lebanon to 7,569 and 492,270, respectively.
The cumulative number of infections confirmed in the country so far has reached 534,968, of which 35,129 are active cases.
As of the time of writing, 35,129 COVID-19 patients in Lebanon are in hospital beds.
Between Friday and Saturday, 581,068 people received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Lebanon, while 204,024 others received the second dose in the same period.
In total, the first and second shots have been administered to 377,044 and 204,024 people in the country, respectively, according to the Health Ministry’s data.
The Ministry had confirmed 580 infections and 20 deaths related to the disease on Friday.
Lebanon detected its first case of COVID-19 on February 21st, 2020.
Schools and universities were ordered to close a week later, with restaurants and touristic institutions following a week after.
The first COVID-19-related death was confirmed on March 10th, and the first recovery followed on March 11th.
Lebanon enforced a general mobilization on March 15th, imposing its first pandemic-induced curfew on the 26th of the same month.
The country has since gone into and out of lockdowns several times, and introduced various travel bans and local restrictions, as the authorities work to keep the outbreak under control.
