On Thursday, local news agencies reported that the Emirati authorities have released the Lebanese Gynecologist, Richard Kharat.
The Lebanese doctor is presumably returning to Lebanon in the coming hours.
The UAE authorities arrested the Lebanese Gynecologist at the beginning of April 2022 over alleged offensive tweets.
The Lebanese Order of Physicians (LOP) later confirmed that Dr. Kharat was arrested in the UAE and the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Abdallah Bou Habib, also followed the case.
The arrest was allegedly due to old tweets by the doctor, in which he made jokes comparing Lebanese and Emirati family names.
He also reportedly posted a tweet in January saying, “The Houthis have vowed to the Emirates to bomb Burj Khalifa. My God, let this information be true,” which was later deleted.
