The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) announced the 4th edition of the ARLEM Award for Young Local Entrepreneurship in the Mediterranean.

ARLEM, or the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly, is a convention established in 2010 by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and is represented by Mediterranean partners, and local and regional delegates from the European Union.

Many local young entrepreneurs opened businesses and initiated startups during the worldwide pandemic that affected Lebanon and the Mediterranean region, and they need support in developing them.

Hence the ARLEM Award wants to feature “entrepreneurial enterprises boosting local communities in the Southern Mediterranean”.

The application deadline will end on August 15, 2022, and the winner will then be announced on November 28, 2022, on the Day of the Mediterranean.

“It would be fantastic if we could encourage more young entrepreneurs from Lebanon to apply to the competition,” said UfM.

Previous winners of the award include:

  • 2021 – 1001 Albanian Adventures, a tourism company set up by Erilda Krasi in Berat, in Albania.
  • 2020 – Rima Dates, an enterprise that uses low-quality dates to produce new market products such as syrup or dates vinegar, in Algeria.
  • 2019 – Zimni Jdeed, a fashion and textile company launched by Najway Altahir Mohammed Shukri and her brother Ali, in Libya.

The ARLEM Award will be given to a young entrepreneur (up to 35 years old), whose company has been registered for at least 3 years.
