A minor was killed in a hit-and-run incident on Tuesday night in the city of Byblos, north of Beirut.
An eyewitness who spoke on the condition of anonymity told The961 that the victim, Maurice Sawma, had attended a party, titled “Unforgettable,” at the VigorCity pub in Byblos and was crossing the highway to buy alcohol when he got hit by a speeding car.
“Maurice was looking for a mini-market by the highway, and he found one on the other side of the highway, he wanted to buy alcohol. The Jbeil highway has no lighting, making it even more unsafe to cross,” the eyewitness said.
The victim’s girlfriend and some friends were with him at the time of the incident.
The TikTok party at VigorCity, attended by minors, was immediately canceled following the incident, according to another source. Sawma was 16 at the time of his death.
A security source told The961 that the driver has been detained and that an investigation is underway.
